Apply now Our client has an exciting opportunity to work within the Gypsy, Traveller and Boater community support team. In this well-established service in B&NES you will take a senior role within a small team. You will have experience of working with vulnerable client groups who are often socially excluded and marginalised. About the company: Our client is a growing voluntary organisation providing services to people facing acute challenges in their lives. Their vision is a just society where socially excluded people are supported and empowered to build sustainable, independent lives.Our client now operates a range of services all over the South West, not only addressing the needs of homeless people but also the root causes of homelessness. Their projects include their hostel in Bath, social enterprises, supported housing, domestic violence refuges, refugee support, homelessness prevention, criminal justice services, and various outreaches. The travelling communities support services aim to improve the lives of Gypsy, Showpeople, Roma, Boater and Traveller communities in Bath and North East Somerset. As well as working with people on a 1:1 basis, the service runs group events and helps empower people to highlight the health needs of the communities and influence services to ensure that there are trusting relationships and fair access to health and social care for those who need it. The day-to-day duties:* Promote the service to individuals and groups within GRT and boater communities, supporting the development of stake holder groups and Community Champions who can help lead the service within their own community* Help assess the health and social needs of individuals, families and groups and through signposting, information and support, promote routes of access to these services* Be a resource and point of contact and expertise for mainstream services - providing awareness training and presentations* Challenge prejudice, inequality and injustice where they are encountered* Maintain accurate records and contribute to analysis of data within the service and contribute to funding bids to ensure development of the service locally and regionally.* Participate in the on-going evaluation of the service* To provide supervision and leadership for the Gypsy & Traveller Outreach and Engagement Worker* To work in close partnership with the company's Homeless Outreach Staff* To work in close partnership with specialist services for GRT and live aboard boaters* Identify, map and report on GRT families and groups and the liveaboard boating community, gathering demographic and other information Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications required:The successful candidate will have- The ability to plan and organise own workExtensive knowledge of health and social care provision and local/national policy driversUnderstanding of the different Gypsy and Traveller groups who use the serviceThe ability to work flexibly towards creative, client centred solutions with individuals who may have seeming intractable problems and who may be suspicious of servicesThe ability to build effective relationships with clients and communities in order to develop pathways enable clients to access services and advocate for their own needsExcellent problem solving and analysis skillsExcellent range of interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skillsAbility to set boundaries, challenge appropriately and manage conflict constructivelyExperience of outreach or community based workExperience of assessment of needs and case managementExperience of multi-agency workingA full driving license and access to a vehicle for work purposes Working with GRT and liveaboard boating communities and/or personal lived experience of being in the travelling communities is desirable.
