Apply on employer's website We are looking for a proactive, passionate and sociable Support Worker to join our friendly and welcoming team in the small market town of Sandy, Bedfordshire on a permanent basis for 30 hours per week. You will assist four wonderful gentlemen to live life as independently as possible and to help them to pursue employment or further education. The successful candidates will work alongside professionals and families as well as other external agencies that maybe supporting them. Some of the things the people we support enjoy doing are attending snooker club, the sports centre to play football, shopping, visiting the cinema and swimming! When at home, they like to be involved in the upkeep of their house and garden as well as household chores, such as cooking, cleaning and washing. As a Support Worker for Mencap you need to be able to meet the needs of those that we support as well as be flexible and resourceful in order to keep up with them! The team you will be joining are friendly and welcoming, with a supportive and encouraging Manager who is eager for their staff to advance in the best way possible. We are looking for someone with a 'can-do' attitude, who is enthusiastic, caring, strongly motivated, outgoing and has a calm demeanour when needed. The gentlemen we support within this service require their Support Workers to have a genuine interest in assisting them to live as independently as possible. As a support worker, flexibility is key for both yourself and for the service, as you may be required to work a variety of different shifts throughout the week, including mornings (ideal for you early risers!), evenings and sleep-ins (Payment for sleep ins is competitive and compliant with National Living Wage requirements). The best thing about flexibility? It's a two-way street. While we may require that you work a variety of shifts, we also understand that you'll have your own requirements - have you got commitments on a Thursday? Not to worry, we can factor this in, as well as other requests (provided you give us enough notice) into our rotas. To be successful in this role you will not need a list of qualifications as we provide you with full, award-winning training once you start, however you will need to be someone who has a 'get up and go' attitude and passionate about making a positive change to lives of people with a learning disability.
